Newly Wed Submission guidelines for California Wedding Day
Each Newly Wed story in California Wedding Day is a splashy, one to two page story that includes photos, text, and contact info for all vendors involved. We run six real weddings in each issue.
We’re looking for weddings that are fabulous, creative, and quintessentially California. Our goal is to share the innovative details and creative ideas that will inspire other brides-to-be. We look for weddings that exude a California vibe; weddings that showcase fresh décor ideas; weddings that take place at hot new regional venues. All weddings featured must be photographed by local wedding photographers and ideally fall within the issue's seasonal time frame.
We're also interested in couples who a have a great story about their engagement, courtship, wedding, reception and/or honeymoon; have a distinct style, from glamorous gala affairs to beachfront celebrations; and we're always looking for and inspired by diversity.
We welcome submissions from anyone and everyone involved in the wedding: wedding planners, decor experts, photographers, florists, caterers, etc. Please simply consult with the photographer about the image selections to ensure you have permission to use the photos.
DEADLINES :
These deadlines are when we finalize our selections for each issue, though we welcome submissions year-round.
SPRING/SUMMER ISSUE DEADLINE: November 14, 2011(on newsstands March-August)
Weddings must occur in California after March 1, 2011
FALL/WINTER ISSUE DEADLINE: May 15, 2012 (on newsstands September-February)
Weddings must occur in California after September 1, 2011
WHAT KIND OF PHOTOS SHOULD I SUBMIT?
Please share a selection of photos that provide a compelling overview of the look and style of each wedding and that illustrate, in a documentary/storytelling style, all the important elements of the event. Please include many detail shots:
- bride and groom
- wedding party
- getting ready
- fashion, hair and makeup details
- ceremony
- venue(s), exteriors and interiors
- detail shots of flowers, cake, table settings, other event décor details
- detail shots of favors, place cards, guest gifts, programs, menus, and other details
- cocktail hour and reception
- photojournalistic moments and candid portraits of the couple and their guests.
HOW TO SUBMIT PHOTOS:
Create an online album of each wedding (named after the couple and containing no more than 25 images). We prefer free, public photo sharing sites like Flickr and Picasa that don't necessarily require a log-in to view the images. Create a private gallery and send us the link. We will be sharing it with the editorial staff, but others won't be able to see your photos.
Please include the couple’s names, the date and location of the wedding, their phone and email, and preferably, a brief description of their style and story. (Plus, make sure that they know you're sharing their big day with us!)
Because of the number of submissions, we unfortunately won't be able to respond to or acknowledge the receipt of every one. We do feature most real weddings submitted on our web site at californiaweddingday.com
We will contact photographers after October 15, 2011 for Spring|Summer 2012 issue to request high-res versions of the images we have selected to run in the magazine.
A NOTE ON PHOTO USAGE AND RIGHTS:
By submitting these images, we assume you have received proper releases from any individuals and locations featured in the photos. Photos you submit may be featured in the print version of the magazine, on our web site or both and will be credited with the name of your photography business. More details will be provided to selected photographers.
IMPORTANT NOTE ON PHOTO SELECTION AND ADVERTISEMENTS:
It’s important that you send us exclusive photos, different than any that you may be using in an advertisement or that will run in another local publication or web site (your own blog or web site is fine, of course!)

We love to see the stunning, striking, and ingenious trends that you've noticed at recent weddings. As we review submissions for Newly Wed, we are always blown away by creative details that couples incorporate into their weddings. We often use these photos in our front-of-book section.

We refresh new weddings and photos from local photographers regularly on our website. If a wedding is not published in the magazine, it will likely be published online on our web site. There is no deadline for online publication.
Other stories
We often illustrate articles about cakes, flowers, beauty, and other trends with photos submitted by local wedding vendors.
Bon Voyage
Our last page which closes the issue, featuring one couple's unique send-off from their special day. Please submit up to five photos and couple’s name, wedding date, location and any additional information about their wedding.
